Competition Desk: March 2012

The Nuts sure have been busy this past month with competition season in full gear! Check out what we are doing:

Over Presidents’ Weekend several of the 11-12 individual routines went to the Cactus Classic Invitational in Mesa, Arizona. All returned home with precious medals! Congrats go out to Haley Watson for bronze in figures, solo and duet with partner Amanda Portier. Amanda also brought home gold in trio with teammates Maggie Bischel and Ava Jih-Schiff. The following weekend, many Nuts headed to the Seaside Routine Only Invitational.

In the Novice category, Grace Choi, Gillian O'Neal and Beverly Schimmel earned first place in 9-10 trio. While Paige Collier, Zoe Eleftheriadis, Caroline Fong, Abigail Kitsas, Tiernan Lynch, Emma Ngo, Raquel Ovadia, and Sterling Stewart won first in 9-10 team.

In Intermediate, Yara Elian won gold for 10U solo and Emma Smith came in second for 11-12 solo.

In the Age Group trios, 11-12 trio, Maggie Bischel, Calia Lockey and Amanda Portier, earned gold and 13-15 trio, Audrey Annison, Kristen Berardi, and Tera Rose ZunigaMiller earned silver. Amanda Portier and Haley Watson won the gold in 11-12 duet. Haley Watson also brought home the gold in the 11-12 solo competition. 10U soloist, Ana Jih-Schiff earned bronze. In the team competition, 10U team, Yara Elian, Emily Ganch, Ana Jih-Schiff, Hailey Kearsley, Sophia Kong, Ryan Lewis, Samantha Melin, and Megan Wong, earned silver and 11-12 team, Maggie Bischel, Sophia Collins, Ava Jih-Schiff, Calia Lockey, Mira Miller, Amanda Portier, Olivia Rosenstein, and Haley Watson, won the gold medal.

The 13-15s and Juniors went to Sacramento for West Zones March 1 through 4. There was a whole lot of purple on that podium!

In JR figures, Nuts represented 7 of the top 10 spots. Congrats to Morgan Boneberg and Alexa Tchekmarev for earning gold and silver medals, respectively. In JR solos, Nuts took the top three spots: 1st Alexa Tchekmarev; 2nd Aly Haylor; and 3rd Kaitlin Staines. Gillian Brassil and Jazzy Carrillo brought home the bronze medal for JR duets. Finally Sofia Bouzos, Gillian Brassil, Jazzy Carrillo, Rina Horii, Sarah House, Grace Mo-ran, Lizzy Welzien and Tori Yee earned silver in the JR team event.

13-15A trio (Dana Drury, Natalie Fletcher and Joanna Langner) and team (Lizzy Atencio, Dana Drury, Natalie Fletcher, Joanna Langner, Remy Mink, Ariel Saiga, Lauren Simonelli and Daria Torba) earned gold medals. Lizzy Atencio, Remy Mink and Ariel Saiga took bronze in trio while teammates Dana Drury and Natalie Fletcher took bronze in duet. The 13-15B team (Lucy Bautista, Jane Bergez, Alina Kadyntseva, Regina Kong, Peyton Legate, Caitlin Mann, Katya Mizin and Renee Stehlik) wowed the crowd with their new Three Musketeers routine and earned 5th place
