Walnut Creek Captures Top Spots at 2011 eSynchro National Championships

The world’s largest synchronized swimming competition got underway last weekend at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center (Federal Way, WA). The 2011 eSynchro Age Group Championships will run through July 2 and are hosted by the Pacific Northwest Association of Synchronized Swimming. Walnut Creek was represented by 11-12 and 13-15 athletes.

Monday’s action featured the finals of the solo, duet, trio and team events for the 11-12 Age Group. In solo competition Walnut Creek’s Paulina Bouzos (128.589) took the bronze medal.

In the duet, Walnut Creek’s Dana Drury and Daria Torba grabbed second with a 128.874. While Katya Mizin and Renee Stehlik placed 4th with a combined 124.507.

In the trio discipline Dana and Daria teamed up with Lauren Simonelli for the gold medal with a score of 129.977. Their teammates Paulina Bouzos, Haley Chambers, and Amanda Portier captured 4th with 127.163 points.

In the team competition, Walnut Creek (130.843) claimed first place.

Tuesday’s competition was highlighted by the finals of the solo, duet, trio and team events for the 13-15 Age Group. In solo Walnut Creek’s Grace Moran placed second with a 141.092.

In the duet, Walnut Creek’s Natalie Fletcher and Elisabeth Welzien captured a first-place finish with a 141.433. Teammates Leah Read and Grace Moran took second with a 140.998.

In the trio, Moran, Read and Welzien earned a gold medal with a 141.854

In the team competition, the Walnut Creek Aquanuts swam to a 4th place with 139.055 which was only 0.002 behind third place.

We are very proud of Walnut Creek Aquanuts girls who showed great spirit, determination, and sportsmanship! This year WCA athletes brought home medals almost in every event they’ve competed in – 4 Gold’s, 3 Silver’s, 1 Bronze, and 3 fourth place finishes. Great job girls, their coaches, and off course their parents!
